The City of Tuscaloosa will host the 2017 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal day on Saturday, June 3 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the City of Tuscaloosa Public Safety Logistics building located at 3311 Kauloosa Avenue. This free, one day only, drop-off event is funded and made possible and sponsored by Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa. The HHW check-in and collection will be conducted by the City of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services Department staff. Household hazardous waste is the discarded, unused or leftover portion of household products containing toxic chemicals. Hazardous wastes can usually be identified by labels such as: “Warning”, “Caution”, “Poisonous”, “Toxic”, and “Flammable”, “Corrosive”, “Reactive”, or “Explosive”. Improper disposal of these wastes can pose a threat to human health and the environment. Items dropped off will either be neutralized and recycled into new product, or safely and properly disposed. HHW disposal day is free and open only to residents that live in Tuscaloosa County. Wastes will not be accepted from commercial businesses, residents outside Tuscaloosa County and non-profit organizations. IDs will be checked. Due to the high cost of this event, the City of Tuscaloosa reserves the right to limit quantities accepted, and stop accepting waste once quota is exceeded.
